About Doodle Beasts (FAQs)
Here is a list of questions that people seem to want to know the answer to…and also some that I wanted to answer, even though they haven’t been asked.
What is Doodle Beasts? Doodle Beasts is an art blog, written and owned by Zo Jones. That’s why there are lots of pictures in it. Occasionally, she blogs about other things that aren’t art related, but mostly these posts are rubbish and should be avoided at all costs. Sometimes she even spells things correctly.
What do you use to do those funny little pictures? Nice boring ink usually, on nice boring paper or board, occasionally alongside acyrlics, biro, pastels, water colours, tequila, mud, brains and anything else that might come my way.
Do you do this for a living?Sadly no. The money I make from selling prints and shirts at Redbubble just about covers the up keep of this domain and also pays for a percentage of art supplies and such. Few people are fortunate enough to make significant money from art, I’m not one of them.
So like, where do you get your ideas from? The aether usually. Sometimes I get ideas from other art forms such as music or writing, sometimes ideas appear floating in my head…Other times I start with a theme or concept and work from there. The weirdest ideas usually start off not that weird, and than then go through a complex and subtle process of weirdification. This process involves wizards and cannot be discussed in public or otherwise.
What artists do you like? Quentin Blake, Tim Burton, Dali, Van Gogh, Escher, Henri Rousseau and a whole bunch of others.
Which art school did you go to? I didn’t. I dropped art when I left school. I used to think I’d made a mistake, but then I figured you don’t go to music school to learn to play guitar like Jimi Hendrix do you? Why should art be any different.
Where are you from? The UK, the greenish bit in the middle, near where they invented Ozzy Osbourne and Lemmy.
Are you mad? Yes, yes I am. Have you met Steve? He’s my pet cheese.
